Christian Willerth, aka “Big Carl”

It all began with a deep passion for the ocean and a curiosity of how things work. I shaped my first surfboard at the age of 16 and immediately realized I had tapped into something special; a craft with infinite potential for innovation and freedom of expression. It soon became an obsession; an outlet where nothing else mattered.

Growing up in Huntington Beach, I had the opportunity to learn from a range of the highly skilled surfboard builders. Every Big Carl Surfboard is hand crafted from start to finish in California with love and a keen attention to detail. I am driven by the challenge of creating a range of functional surf craft designed to master all ocean conditions.
